European Commission adopts European Regional Development Fund Programme for England

The European Commission has adopted the England Operational Programme for 2014-2020, worth 6.5 billion euros.

The European Commission has adopted the England Operational Programme for 2014-2020, worth 6.5 billion euros.

Investment from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) will focus on research and innovation, supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and promoting the low carbon economy, through energy efficiency measures.

Emphasis will also be put on the role of financial instruments to help leverage and multiply the value of EU structural funds.

Funding Priorities

The programmes will focus on eight main priorities:

  1. Enhancing the competitiveness of SMEs
  2. Strengthening RTD and innovation
  3. Supporting the shift towards a low carbon economy
  4. Enhancing access to, and use and quality of, ICT
  5. Preserving and protecting the environment and promoting resource efficiency
  6. Promoting climate change adaptation, risk prevention and management
  7. Sustainable transport in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly
  8. Promoting social inclusion, combating poverty and discrimination.

ERDF and the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise Sector

Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Creţu added: " The aim is also to build strong partnerships between the local and national level, involving NGOs, charities and community based groups.

Further funding opportunities are expected to open in July and will be listed on the new ESIF Funding Finder on GOV.UK
